Friends! Over the weekend I had the opportunity to go to the Sleeping Giant Provincial Park, and visit one of my favourite places, Middlebrun. I’ve always gone in the summer, and a couple weeks I was thinking about cold beaches, as one does, and how much I loved them. And then it occurred to me that I should go to Middlebrun as it’s probably just as nice in fall as it is in summer (I was right). Middlebrun is on the Sleeping Giant Peninsula, I would recommend checking it out sometime if you live in the area!
To get there: drive out on the highway towards Nipigon from Thunder Bay, turn right onto Pass Lake Rd, heading towards Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. Keep going until you pass the campground entrance, just before you reach the hiking parking lot for the Park there is a fork in the road, go left instead of right and you will come to the Middlebrun and Finlay Bay hiking trail. It has a small parking lot and a map of the trails. It’s about a 2.5km hike into the first bay (Middlebrun), but it’s a pretty easy hike, only about 5km round trip. I would definitely recommend bringing your ENO if you have one for the cooler months, or a beach blanket for the summer, it’s nice to have a place to set up while you spend some time out there.
Here are some pictures I got while in the area:
Overall it was a really fun day! Let me know if you’ve been there and what you thought – if you haven’t been, bring some snacks, your ENO and some friends and make a day of it before it gets super chilly!
