Karlie Kloss’s Apple Crisp

Karlie Kloss’s Apple Crisp – Review

Hi friends! I’ve been doing tons of baking lately, but unfortunately my mom and sister both have Celiac disease so they rarely get to try any of my treats. šŸ™ Karlie Kloss to the rescue!! I remembered this video by Karlie, where she bakes one of her favourite recipes “Karlie’s Apple Krisp”, which happens to be gluten free! Woo hoo! Queue my review of Karlie Kloss’s Apple Crisp. Does it work? Is it tasty? Read on to find out!

As soon as I saw her video I wanted to try it; even though I’m not a big fan of baked apple, it’s just nice to make something everyone can enjoy. It’s a pretty straightforward recipe, which you can also find on her tumblr here.

Here’s how it works:

Apple Filling:

4 cups of apples, peeled and sliced

2 teaspoons of lemon juice

1 tablespoon of maple syrup

1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg and cinnamon each

1 teaspoon vanilla

Oatmeal Crisp:

1/2 cup almond flour – I used regular gluten free flour and 1/8 teaspoons xanthan gum

1/2 cup gluten free oats

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/3 cup of coconut oil

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 1/2 tablespoons maple syrup

Directions

Preheat your oven to 375F. Rub butter inside a small pan, then place in the sliced apples, and poor lemon juice overtop. Then, add the maple syrup, vanilla, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Toss it around until everything is evenly spread (I just used my hands). Then start with the crumble, mix everything togetherĀ leavingĀ the coconut oil to be added only once everything has beenĀ evenly mixed.Ā Spread the mix on top of the apples, drizzle Ā about 1/2 a tablespoon of maple syrup on top, and bake for approx. 30-40 minutes.

My experience

I made a few oopsies with this one. The biggest mistake was accidentally putting 1/2 a cup (instead of 1/3) of coconut oil into the crumble which made is waaaay too smooth of a mixture. I added some more oats to offset this and give it the right ‘crumble’ texture. At first I didn’t think the crumble mixturewould be enough to cover the whole pan (note: use a smaller pan in the future) but in the end it formed a thin crust, so it all worked out! In the end everyone one loved it! Karlie Kloss’s Apple Crisp is a hit! It’s not too much work, super healthy and superĀ yum!! I’ll definitely be trying more of Karlie’s recipes in the future.
