Aloooooooaha friends! It’s about that time of the month where everyone is posting their February Favourites of 2016… I’ve always liked reading those/watching those videos but I, personally, have a hard time writing them myself. I honestly just don’t buy that much to have new favourites every month (through no choice of my own, I’m just a poor student), so I really don’t have very many new favourites each month. 🙁 But! This predicament made me think of a new kind of blog post, and that’s my makeup/beauty wishlist. Here’s how it works; I’m going to tell you about the different products in my ‘Love List’ on Sephora and wish lists on various other sites, and you’re going to advise me in the comments if you have it or have heard about it (please!). Normally I’m a total impulse buyer but lately I’ve been trying to save more, so I’ve slowly accumulated a list of different makeup products that I’m considering buying, and now I’m looking for advice on what will or will not be worth it. Here we go!
Anastasia Cream Contour Kit:
I’ve been mulling over this product for awhile. I really want a cream based contour kit, I feel like it’s the next step and honestly I just want to try and recreate all those cool instagram videos. At first, I was totally sold on this one and was ready to buy it but then I read a few really unhappy reviews of it that put me off 🙁 I’m looking for a contour kit that can work magic at highlighting. I have the Cocoa Contour kit from Too Faced right now, but the highlight powders really do not do anything (I didn’t know it was powder based when I asked for it). I guess I’m just really looking for that extra coverage. Right now I’m using Maybelline’s Fit Me concealer and a couple of others based on how my skin’s feeling that day, and then setting it with the highlighting powder in the Cocoa Contour Kit, but I would like a contour kit that cuts out the extra steps.
Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Colour Correcting Fluid:
As you’ll soon learn, I’m pretty insecure about my eyes/dark eye circles. This concealer comes in various colours claiming to correct different colour in-variants in the skin like redness or under eye circles or blotchiness. I picked up a colour correcting concealer from Maybelline just to see how it works, I’ve also tried using a delicate amount of coral lipstick underneath my concealer but none of it has worked very well so I’m skeptical of how much better this high-street concealer could work. Hmm.
Anastasia’s Dip Brow Pomade:
I follow Anastasia on Instagram and it’s been super unfortunate for my sad little wallet. I initially wanted their brow definer pencil but then accidentally bought their eyebrow brush instead (whoops, I’m stupid sometimes) so I’m going to have to go with the pomade if anything. Right now I just use a brown eyeshadow and my brow gel to do my eyebrows, but this stuff looks a bit creamier like it would both fill in my brows as well as set them in place a bit, but I’m not sure if that’s true and I’m not sure what colour would match my brows – there’s too many options!!!
Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Mascara:
I know, I know! So many people say this is the best mascara ever, but I’ve also heard a lot of people who are disappointed with it! I think it depends on the kind of lashes you have, maybe. Except I’m not sure what kind of lashes everyone else has, I only know what I have and I don’t have this mascara, do you see my problem? I just don’t want to spend $30 on a mascara that I don’t like. I don’t want to spend $30 on anything. If you have this, do you like it? What kind of lashes do you have? Mine are pretty thick, long, and straight.
Kat Von D Shade & Light Contour Palette:
Basically the same questions as the Anastasia one, and which one is better?! AhhhhhH!
Dior’s Diorskin Forever Perfect Makeup Broad Spectrum 35:
Is this as awesome as it sounds? Is it dewy or is it going to crease and sit in dry patches? Does it oxidize? These are things people have said about Dior’s foundations and I’m just wondering if they’re true for this foundation. Otherwise it sounds awesome, I’m all about that SPF. Is it better or worse than MAC’s Studio Face and Body Foundation?
Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer:
I’ve read a lot of awesome reviews for this, but it seems so expensive for such a small looking little bottle! I guess you don’t use very much but I just want to make sure that it’s worth the hype and people aren’t just giving it good reviews for no reason (idk okay, my setting spray doesn’t work as well as they told me it would and now I’m a skeptic).
I was going to add in some MAC products but I feel like that’s just too many, and I can’t buy them unless I go them and have them matched to my skin tone, so I’ll leave that. Please let me know if you have any advice, experience or comments on any of these products! I would love to hear from you (for real, I trust you guys).
