Hi friends! Recently I’ve been following more and more of those Instagram beauty gurus who post short little videos of their makeup and such. One of them – ‘@itslikelymakeup’ always looks fab and seemed to often use Maybelline’s Fit Me concealer, so I thought I would try it out. Now I have to apologise to my sister because I was the one who told her to buy the NARS concealer, she loved it so much she has been re-buying it ever since. So when I found a concealer that was about a third of the price, I felt pretty bad. So soz Steph.
About my skin – I have generally dry skin, sometimes tiny little patches of eczema 😦 My skin tone is neutral, which makes it hard for me to conceal the constant dark circles under my eyes – it’s a never ending battle. As such, I’m always a little skeptical with drugstore concealers (and concealers in general) as they always seem to settle in dry patches, and still don’t do what they’re supposed to. I use Fit Me concealer in the tone “Fair”.
About NARS’s Radiant Creamy Concealer: It’s a liquid concealer, but as it’s named it’s much more creamy than runny. It’s good for dry skin but it can settle in lines especially if it’s not set with any kind of powder. It comes in all kinds of varying shades, so no matter what skin colour you have you’ll likely find a match which is great! Overall, it’s a good concealer, but it’s $36.00 CAD for a good sized tube, which isn’t necessarily affordable for a student like me.
About Maybelline’s Fit Me Concealer: I think it’s essentially the same as the NARS concealer, maybe a tad bit runnier. It also comes in varying shades but not nearly as many as NARS. On the plus side, it’s about $9.00 CAD. The biggest drawback I have is that it’s almost never in stock. I check every time I go to a drugstore and so far I’ve only ever been able to pick up one (the one I’m currently using) and it was the last one there!
What I use it for: I don’t use either of these concealers alone, I usually pair them with either Urban Decay’s 24/7 concealer (which I also love) or Benefit’s Boing concealer, both of which are more of a matte cream. I use the Fit Me concealer as more of a base for my contour, I layer it under my eyes, along the bridge of my nose, etc. and then set it with the Fair Cocoa colour from Too Faced’s contour palette.
Plus Sides: The cost!! It’s super cheap and it works just as well as the NARS concealer (in my experience). It’s excellent for contouring and it provides a decent amount of coverage.
Down Sides: I wouldn’t use it as a stand alone concealer; it’s too liquidy for any significant buildability (is that a word? probably not but you know what I mean), so if I want enough coverage I pair it with an existing layer of concealer. That being said, my dark circles are preeeetty dark. It’s also hardly ever in stock and sometimes sets into creases and dry patches, but at this point, what concealer doesn’t? (Seriously! Let me know if you have one that doesn’t).
At the end of the day, it’s way cheaper than the NARS concealer, works just as well and has all the same drawbacks as it (minus the cost). So, if I can get my hands on it then I’ll be buying it over the NARS concealer.
If you’ve tried both feel free to share any other thoughts on the two in the comments below!
