Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Review

The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder is a product that’s fairly trendy, and quite expensive. I bought the individual compact in the shade “Luminous Light” from Sephora in June. I won’t lie, it was a complete impulse purchase. I’ve wanted it ever since I heard about it in one of Zoella’s makeup tutorials (I’m basic, I know). When I saw it in the store, it was too pretty and glowy to pass by, so here we are. Unfortunately, when a big name like that recommends it, you’re still not 100% sure about the product. So, here is my humble Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Review.

What is it?

The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder is an all over face finishing powder. It comes in a variety of shades with undertones to match all skin colours. When you dust it over your face it gives you a lovely shimmery glow, and simultaneously blurs out pores and imperfections. On the Sephora website Hourglass says it “diffuses and softens the look of the skin.” I 100% agree.

What Is It Not? Spoiler Alert: A Highlighter

It may look as shimmery and sparkly on the palette as other highlighters do but that’s not what it is intended for. If you buy it to use as a highlighter you will be sorely disappointed. It does not have the same effect as a highlighter. The effect is far more subtle which allows for it to be an all-over face powder – more of a finishing touch setting powder than a highlighter.

These two photos show the pinkish undertones in the Luminous Light shade of Ambient Lighting Powder. The amount of work and detail that has gone into creating each individual shade is apparent when looking at the shades under different lighting.

About the Product

You can find it on the Sephora website. The web page has a much more in depth description of the product but I’ll give you all of the important information here! The cost is $45 CAD. Is it worth it? Considering that I have used it every time I’ve worn makeup these past three months, to me it’s very much worth the cost. It seems expensive for only one pressed powder. But, a small amount goes such a long way. It’s great at both creating a softened finished look and setting your makeup, so I would absolutely repurchase this product.

Other Important Facts

This product does not contain parabens. Hourglass as a company have taken a stance on animal testing and animal cruelty. I was under the impression that Hourglass was not a cruelty free brand, but on their website, under their FAQ they claim that they are in fact a cruelty free brand (wahoo!).

Cruelty Free Statement

Hourglass does not incorporate animal testing into our development phase or at the production level. We do not provide authorization to any third parties to perform animal testing on our products. In addition, Hourglass does not retail within any country that requires animal testing.”-https://www.hourglasscosmetics.com/faqs

This is another huge plus for me for obvious reasons. I love finding well known trendy products that are also cruelty free! Just goes to show that you do not have to limit your makeup options if you want to go completely cruelty free.

The swatch is on the right side of my watch, I swatched it with my finger rather than a brush just so there would be a high enough concentration of the product for you to see. On the left side of the watch is a swatch of the product with a brush, as you can – or can’t – see, the product is incredibly sheer and almost unnoticeable unless it catches the light.

Where Can I Get It?

You can purchase this product at a local Sephora, or online. Hourglass also has a website, which I linked above, but unfortunately I can’t find the individual Ambient Lighting compacts on there.

There you have it, my humble Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Review. I hope it answered all of your questions! Let me know in the comments if you have anymore.
