How To Style Monochrome

Monochrome – also known as all and only black and white, or all one colour, is a huuuuge trend in fashion for Spring. Dior (Ready to wear) and Calvin Klein (menswear) both had almost entirely monochromed, black and white, runways. And now I can’t type monochrome without giggling, it’s all too much! So, how to style monochrome? It’s fairly straightforward, once you get the hang of it!

There are two great things about an all black and white trend. You probably already have everything you need in your closet. And it’s versatile enough that you can still put your own style and spin on things. Here are three monochromed looks that I put together that I think both express different aspects of my own style, and look on trend. These will give you some inspiration on how to style monochrome!

Shirt: Original from H&M, similar

Trousers: Original from Topshop, similar(concept)

m21I think statement trousers are a nice twist because they’re not something everyone is wearing. They add something different and cool to the outfit. I paired this with a simple black top and leather jacket to keep it monochrome and simple, but you could easily pair it with a plain white tee instead! I know if it were later on in Spring and I didn’t need a jacket I would go for white as it tends to be a more ‘Springy’ tone, but in this case I needed my leather jacket, so I colour blocked my top half in black.

This outfit is really casual and easy to put together from staples that are likely already in your wardrobe. This is one way you can implement the monochrome trend into your Spring style in a less obvious or ‘out there’ sort of way. The long sleeve and jeans are also great for the colder, early Spring months. (Which is basically all of Spring when you live in Canada!! Booo!)

Look 3

Skirt:  Black Satin H&M Skirt, available here

I picked out this outfit to show a more colour-blocked version of the monochrome trend. This is super easy to recreate with what you’ve already got in your wardrobe. You just need something white and something black! I also wanted to create at least one more look that was a bit more feminine, and one that was perfect for warmer Spring months. This simplified version of the trend is nice because it’s really easy to use accessories to really make the look your own! I picked a small blue bracelet for my look, just to add a subtle hint of colour and tie the outfit together a little bit.

That’s that for monochrome! Don’t forget to hit follow to keep up with me and see some more posts on how you can recreate some of the Spring ’17 trends at home!
