Levi 501 Skinny Jeans Review

Are you ready for it? Here’s my Levi 501 skinny jeans review.Levi 501 Skinny jeansl1l8

Ah the Levi 501 jeans, AKA – my favourite jeans EVER. Levi’s 501s are one of their original designs that continues to be very popular today. They offer the 501 style in a variety of fits and forms, but my favourite is the skinny. Here’s my Levi 501 Skinny jeans review.

About the design…

Now this is the Levi 501 Skinny jean review, not exactly like the 501 of yore. While they’re labelled as ‘skinny’ jeans, they aren’t the skin hugging skinny jeans you’re used to. Since they find their roots way back in ye olde days, the skinny is more of a straight cut, with a little more of a hug to it. They also have a higher waist (LOVE), and a button up instead of a zipper (double LOVE). The pockets in the back are big, and in my humble opinion, they have a very 90s look to the bum – form fitting just enough to appreciate it, but still a little looser than you’re used to. My guess: this is the new “mom” jean that everyone will be eating up STAT. As an overly body conscious person, I will also say that these are not body hugging jeans, and may make you feel bigger than you are. This is exactly why I pushed myself to buy them, but also why they might not be right (yet!) for someone else.

About the material…

The one drawback to the design is the material – this is old school jean. There’s ZERO give in the material, so go a size up if you’re ordering online. After wearing them a few times they’ll have a little more give, but mostly they’ll just feel more comfortable. While they feel really stiff when you put them on, they’re not going to stretch out with wear, so stick to a bigger size, and try them on before buying if you can.

About MY jeans…

It’s a Levi 501 Skinny jeans review, so you get it. But the jeans I’m wearing are 501 skinnies from Levi’s at Hudson Bay. They’ve since sold out but if you’re on a mission: they’re the “501 Distressed Skinny Jeans.” I usually wear a 26 in Levis, but I went up a size based on the reviews and they fit wayyyyy better that way – a 26 probably would not go over my hips. They are a bit big around the waist now (the eternal struggle) but it’s not so bad and I can still wear them without a belt. These ones are a biiiit long, I have to cuff them if I’m going to wear them, even with heels. I also didn’t want ripped jeans because I hate when the rips just turn into holes. Pet peeve. These are all small sacrifices considering they were only $83CAD as opposed to the usual $130, and I wasn’t sure if I would like the style on me!

Back in the 1980s, my favorite pair of jeans were Levi’s 501 button fly jeans. I was just talking to my husband about them. I didn’t know if they still made button fly. I will have to see if I can find them in the US.
