L’Occitane’s Shea Light Face Cream (5%) is my FAVOURITE face cream for the winter months. I actually had to go back and check that I hadn’t reviewed this product already because it SHOCKS me that it’s not on here yet! This is my holy grail moisturizer. I have combination skin, but it’s reaaaally sensitive so I usually get dry patches and eczema spots on my face in the colder, drier winter months. Conversely, if I use a heavier face cream my face gets really oily feeling throughout the day, and my makeup just melts right off. My solution? L’Occitane’s Shea (light) Face Cream.
My Skin + Skincare Routine
I have very sensitive skin. I’m prone to hives and basically any other irritants to it’s really important that I find skincare products that aren’t too harsh, and are reliable in terms of what’s actually in them. In the summer, I stick to an eye cream in the morning and lately I’ve been using a serum too. In the evening I use a few drops of rosehip seed oil which I LOVE but it takes too long to sink in for me to use before putting on makeup. In the winter I use face cream in the morning after I’ve washed my face AND at night after I’ve washed my face. In the summer time it’s just too much and it makes my face greasy (the WORST) feeling, but in the winter it’s necessary.
L’Occitane’s face creams are my favourite but some of the thicker consistencies (20%) are too heavy for me, even in winter. I always opt for 5% because it’s cheaper and the perfect amount to sink into my skin and keep hydrating without feeling slick (the WORST feeling a moisturizer can have am I right?). I will still occasionally get a dry patch or two even when I’m using this, but I think that’s just inevitable. I can use this cream under my makeup without it feeling like an added layer or messing with my makeup’s formula. The cream also smells really comforting and doesn’t hurt when you put it on really dry skin, it just soaks right up.
What’s In It?
According to L’Occitane’s product description it has “no alcohol, No BHA, No BHT, No EDTA, No formol or formaldehyde, No mineral oil (oil-free), No parabens, No phtalates, No silicone, No synthetic colorants, No triclosan.” I’m not going to lie, I don’t know what half of those are but if they’re specifying it’s probably a good thing, no? All I know is I love the Shea because it’s one of the natural moisturizers that I’m not allergic to! Score! Another plus is that all of L’Occitane’s products are made in France, so you know their ingredients are well regulated and more reliable.
Cost + Purchasing
I live in Thunder Bay and believe it or not, there’s no L’Occitane here 🙁 I always purchase from the online L’Occitane store, and usually it takes me anywhere between 8 months – 1 year to go through one, so I just made an annual purchase timed to their advent calendar(!!!). It costs $34.00 CAD which isn’t super affordable but is very well priced for a luxury product that has natural ingredients and is made by a well known company that doesn’t outsource their labour. I’ve never had a problem when ordering from there, sometimes they give you free giftware around Christmas which I ALWAYS get and then I wrap the boxes and reuse them every year. They also always have free samples and some good promotions where you get a luxury set of samples if you spend x amount of dollars.
Moment Behind the Blog: Day 4
OK it is CRAZY Christmassy here in T-Bay!!! Last night when I went to bed it was still rainy and slushy outside and then I woke up this morning to a WINTER! WONDERLAND! Only downside? I had to wipe a foot of snow off my van and drive to work at 8am this morning. And none of the stop lights were working. And there was a layer of ice under the foot of snow on all the roads. It was treacherous and I got stuck sliding around the middle of the intersection more than once but I made it out alive. I also spent the afternoon watching Elf, baking cookies, and doing a Christmas themed puzzle? What is my life when school’s out? Perfection, that’s what.
