Styling Neck Scarves and Life Updates

Spring Has Sprung! Or has it?
It became inordinately warm here in Edinburgh in FEBRUARY. The winter itself has been incredibly mild. I don’t think it’s ever been colder than -3 celsius. Incredible, if you ask me, but my relationship with existentialism and global warming has taken a hit as a result. Separate but related thought: one thing I’ve started doing recently is trying to use accessories to change up my outfits. I have a bit of a capsule wardrobe since I moved with only one suitcase, and I try not to spend too much money on consumerism and fast fashion. Instead of buying tons of new clothes here, I’ve bought little accessories to try to fancy up outfits, and create more outfit options to create with what I own. Even when I moved, I brought with me not one, but two neck scarves. One suitcase, two neck scarves. I love them.

My Go-To Travel Outfit | Hiking in Ireland

Function Over Fashion: A minimalist approach to styling while travelling
I am NOT someone who overpacks when they travel. Now that I’m living in the U.K. I’m traveling on budget airlines (bc ya girl’s on a budget), which charge you even for a hand luggage carry on. On my latest adventure to the West coast of Ireland to do some hiking, I packed everything into my small and beloved Lululemon backpack, which fits perfectly under the seat of the airplane. Mind you, the trip was four nights, five days, and included city days in Galway and Dublin, and two days in the countryside hiking and biking, so I needed a LOT of variety when it came to my clothes… or so you would think. I managed to find basically one outfit that worked under all circumstances, admittedly I did not look fantastic and chic in the cities, but it was good enough!

Woolly Sweaters By the Seaside

I think it’s about time I feature a lil outfit post! My wardrobe and style is VERY dependent on the season, and in the summertime I’m very floaty and fresh with my wardrobe. I don’t like anything too flashy, or too high maintenance. I’ll wear the same pair of jean shorts and plain t shirts with Birkenstocks day in and day out. As the weather gets colder, I always somehow find the inspiration to put a lil extra something into my wardrobe. I suddenly want to take the time to do my hair and makeup, and wear skirts with tights and cozy sweaters and turtlenecks. This year, I moved right at the beginning of September, which meant I had to pack up my entire Autumn/Winter wardrobe, and now I’m working through that summer to fall transition on a very minimal wardrobe.

My Top 30 #30Wears

aka — my top 30 most worn pieces of clothing

The Top 30 #30Wears is a new challenge that I’m starting right here, today! The 30 Wears Campaign was started by EcoAge’s Livia Firth, and aims to bring more awareness to sustainability practices when shopping. The requirements of the challenge are pretty simple– just write a blog post, make a YouTube video, Instagram story, Twitter thread, (ANYTHING) featuring your 30 favourite pieces of clothing that you’ve worn at least 30 times, bringing more awareness to the aims to #30Wears and sustainable shopping practices! You can read more about the campaign, this challenge and why both are so important to me on Essa+Ace – a website I started to resell quality pieces of clothing and talk about issues in the fashion industry. Here is my submission to the Top 30 #30Wears Challenge, my favourite pieces of clothing that I’ve definitely worn at least 30 times.

OOTD | Pine Trees and Paisley

DDBC6BA5-EAFD-4136-B6E5-A214AF3FF6AAOK full disclosure: no ACTUAL pine trees in this post, pine trees just = winter. Paisley on the other hand is here and ready to STAY this season! Today’s outfit is ANOTHER attempt to bring dresses into my winter wardrobe, while also adding some hints of summer to brighten it up. Today’s summer hint? You guessed it! Paisley. Iconic.

OOTD | Dressing for Winter

I’m a big fan of dresses. I know they’re not for everyone, but to me they’re such an easy way to be comfortable and chic, it’s too good to pass up. Of course, part of the comfort question is the style of dress. For a loooooong time I stuck strictly to bodycon and skater dresses because I felt like anything that didn’t hug my waist made me look ginormous. Thankfully, after spending years avoiding dresses that I found gorgeous just because they weren’t form fitting, I have embraced it. Even better: shift dresses are the comfiest and I regret having missed out on them for so long.
