Local Edinburgh clothes shops you should know
The best Edinburgh clothes shops aren’t the River Islands or the H&Ms of Princes St. Edinburgh’s smaller fashion boutiques are infinitely more fun to browse and are owned, operated and curated by locals with an eye for style. Edinburgh’s best local clothes shops are treen, Biscuit, Frontiers and Walker Slater.

Treen.
Cat Anderson founded treen with the goal of creating a space to find fashionable and ethical clothing. Everything in treen is 100% vegan, and sourced with sustainability in mind. This is the place to go for chic and classic clothes that support the planet! If you’re sick of fast fashion but you haven’t found somewhere that sells clothes as trendy as the high street, look no further. Browsing through treen is one of my favourite things to do in Stockbridge, their display is full of inspiration. Some of my favourite pieces right now are the gingham Moma Top and pretty much everything from the Girlfriend Collective (hello perfect loungewear!). Treen also stock accessories from luxuriously soft socks to stylish minimalist jewellery.
Shopping at treen
Treen have a storefront on St Stephens Street in Edinburgh, one of my favourites in the whole city. Their online shop is always fully stocked, so you can get everything they offer in store shipped directly to your door! If you subscribe to their emails you’ll get 15% off your first order along with other promotions, style edits, fashion inspiration, playlists, recipes and more. Right now, they’re offering free UK shipping. And the best part is that 5% of all sales in April are going to Smart Works Edinburgh, a charity which helps unemployed women find job success. Happy shopping!

Biscuit Clothing
Biscuit was the first local Edinburgh clothes shop that I discovered. They have two storefronts in the city, one on George Street, and another in Bruntsfield. They stock bright, colourful clothes with a ton of personality, alongside homewares and jewellery. Biscuit also have the cutest kids section you ever did see. Their Bruntsfield shop is a must-stop for me on a Saturday stroll. Biscuit always inspires me to wear more colour and always, always, always have what I’m looking for when I need to buy a gift for my trendiest friends.

Shopping at Biscuit
Along with their George Street and Bruntsfield locations, Biscuit have an online website that stocks everything they sell in store. So, if you’re on the hunt for the perfect gift to send to someone special, look no further! They have every kind of gift you can imagine, all at great price points. Their selection ranges from bath and body bits by Plum and Ashby, to gorgeous Grand Illusions homewares and the cutest Beck Sondergaard accessories – what more could you want? Frontiers Women
Frontiers, an Edinburgh classic established 30 years ago, has both womens and menswear shops directly across from each other in the West End. They’re one of my more recent Edinburgh clothing shop discoveries, and my partner Angus and I are both obsessed. Frontiers Women take their merchandising seriously. They only stock the best of the best. Their carefully curated store is full of fashionable pieces that are made in the UK and look and feel luxurious. I can confidently say, I could pick something blindfolded from Frontiers and I know I’d love it.
Shopping at Frontiers Women
Frontiers’ wonderful online shop sells everything you can find in-store. If you’re looking to treat someone, yourself included, to some serious fashion, their knitwear collection should be your first stop. To be fair, it would be hard to find something you don’t love at Frontiers. Here, you can shop with confidence, as everything they stock is made with the best quality products and the highest care – these are luxury pieces to invest in. They’re having 20% off site-wide right now, so invest away!

Walker Slater Womenswear
Walker Slater have a womenswear and a menswear shop on the famous Victoria Street in Edinburgh. Their style harks back to traditional Scottish wear and brings it fashionably into the 21st century. If you love Scotland and everything tweed, this is the shop for you. When I was a tour guide, this was the place I’d send people to for a more authentic Scottish shopping experience. My eyes light up every time I pass their window display of tweed coats, linen shirts and their gorgeous berets. I once bought a pair of socks from there as a special treat to myself and they’re still my favourite socks. Life tip: you’ve got have good socks in life.

Shopping at Walker Slater
Along with locations in Edinburgh and Glasgow, Walker Slater have a fully operational online shop and ship worldwide. So, if you’ve missed out on your trip to Scotland or you couldn’t fit a tweed coat in your suitcase, fear not! And, for those worried about sizing, Walker Slater have the best accessories. I’ve met more than one person in Old Town by thinking ‘that’s a fabulous beret’, asking them where it’s from and lo and behold – it’s always Walker Slater. If hats aren’t your thing, they have a diverse collection of accessories including scarves, gloves, bags and more. And, they have a wide selection of ties that Angus likes to stare at whenever I take him to pick out socks… just saying!
