Review: Sunday lunch at The Lawn, North Berwick

The Lawn restaurant is in the Marine hotel in North Berwick. The Marine is part of a series of historic hotels that have recently been renovated, including the Rusacks hotel in St Andrews, and the Marine hotel in Troon. The Marine in North Berwick is tucked away from the village next to the famed golf course, and enjoys uninterrupted views of the Firth of Forth beyond the links. Upon approaching the hotel, you are immediately impressed with its stately nature. The traditional style has certainly been preserved and improved upon throughout renovations. Still, the feeling of importance permeates its walls. This is the kind of hotel that knows it’s own reputation, and will make you feel important by association.

*I was recently invited as a content creator to try their Sunday lunch menu. However, there was no obligation to review the lunch. All opinions remain my own.

Taylor Swift’s Chai Sugar Cookies

Taylor posted on Tumblr about these cookies wayyyyy back in the good old days of 2014, hence why I’ve called them Taylor Swift’s Chai Sugar Cookies. Ever since, I’ve baked these bad boys on the first snow of the year. Ladies and gentlemen and everyone in between, today is in fact the first snow of the year. That’s right, October 27 and she’s snowin’ up a storm in good old Canada. Winter is here. Again. And so are these cookies.

Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Hi friends! Today I thought I would share with you the baking recipe that started it all – the classic chocolate chip cookie recipe. These are the cookies you bake with your mom when you’re little… And contribute only by putting in a teaspoon of vanilla and eating all the extra chocolate chips. This recipe was the first one I ever learned to bake by myself. It’s from the Hershey’s Cook Book that we bought from a Hershey’s factory back in the ’90s and it is deeeelicious. I don’t think I’ve ever made anything else from the recipe book though.

Grandma’s Peanut Butter Cookie Recipe

My Grandma’s peanut butter cookie recipe is, for obvious reasons, my go-to pick me up cookie recipe. I love love LOVE using old recipes that have been passed down generations. It makes the baking a more intimate and meditative experience in my opinion because you (after awhile) know the recipe like the back of your hand, and you feel connected to something or someone who might not be around anymore.

Ladurée French Macarons Recipe – Easier Than It Seems!

I’ve been really wanting to try baking macarons ever since I started baking. Macarons, crepes, and chocolate covered strawberries are my all-time favourite desserts so I really want to master all three. Problem is: macarons are super hard to make, so I’ve been biding my time before I attempt them. You need really precise measurements and you need to do everything exactly as ‘they’ tell you to for them to turn out well. Luckily, little old me was gifted with a baking scale from my sister for Christmas, so today was dedicated to my first ever macaron baking adventure! Here is my Ladurée French Macarons Recipe.
